Welcome to the Scottish Register of Tartans

The Scottish Register of Tartans (the Register) is a national repository of tartan designs. It is an on-line website database facility maintained by the National Archives of Scotland, an executive agency of the Scottish Government.

Anyone can register new tartan designs - from members of the public to fashion designers to weavers and kilt makers. You can search the many thousands of existing tartans using the facilities provided. Useful links to Scotland's tartan industry sources are also accessible from this site.

Bringing Home the Tartan competition! Winner announced
The winner of the Bringing Home the Tartan competition! was announced by George MacKenzie, Keeper of the Scottish Register of Tartans at the Harvey Nichols Autumn/Winter Fashion Show at Multrees Walk, Edinburgh on 6 October.
