Registration notes: In celebration of the Islander’s 50th anniversary, Britten-Norman has commissioned a tartan to mark the aircraft’s long service to Scottish aviation and its role in the rugged and beautiful terrain of the Highlands and Islands. The tartan is based upon the Royal Stewart, with the broad blue representing the sky and the central silver band flanked with two lines of red representing the aircraft and its twin engines. The pale blue accent is to represent Britten-Norman’s service to military flying units around the world, first among which is the Army Air Corps. Woven in white against navy blue is the morse code for IW, representing Bembridge Airport on the IoW, the venue for the Islander's maiden flight.
