Registration notes: Based on the Robertson tartan that was recorded in 1819 – a clan with which the Roys are historically connected – this design celebrates both the Scottish and Canadian branches of the family. Red is for the Maple leaf and Claire Roy – a much loved and mourned red-haired member of the ‘clan’ - and together with white and blue represents David Roy’s naval career. White is for the snows of Canada and the Cairngorms; grey is for the Canadian Shield and the skies of Blackpool, Margaret’s adopted home; the green is for Granny and Grandad Roy’s love of gardening. The thread count of 50 commemorates the year the first Roy graduated from University – John Roderick in 1950 from St. Andrew’s. Finally the yellow represents the common characteristics of the Roy family DNA – curiosity, intellect, humour, and joy. May be used by descendants or those sharing the Roy Surname.
