Registration notes: The original ‘Bean of Freeport’ tartan was registered in 1988 for L.L.Bean Inc, Freeport, Maine, USA, who are outdoor sporting specialists, to commemorate their 75th Anniversary. This Bean of Freeport Fall tartan, has been designed as part of collection in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the original Bean of Freeport Tartan and follows a similar sett to the original, however has been simplified to a modern design. The orange colour in this Fall version signifies the change of season where the entire landscape of Maine turns to autumn and is of great significance to LL Bean being renowned outdoor specialists. The green represents the rich dark green of the outdoors for which L.L.Bean is known for, this colour is also known as ‘Bean Green’ and is used in their logo. The white signifies how the landscape is beginning to shift to winter snow. Brown represents further the change of the landscape where the brown trunks and branches of the trees become more prominent without their leaves. Whilst the Yellow commemorates the founder L.L.Bean himself and his original ‘Bean Boot’ design with its distinctive yellow laces still made in Maine-one pair at a time-by expert craftspeople.
Woven Sample: A woven sample of this tartan has been received by the Scottish Register of Tartans for permanent preservation in the National Records of Scotland.
