Tartan Details - Maclaine of Lochbuie Auld Sett

The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Maclaine of Lochbuie Auld Sett" tartan is shown below.

Reference: 12067
Designer: Unknown
Tartan date: 01/01/1780
Registration date: 20 February 2018
Category: Clan/Family
Restrictions: Yes. Intended for the use of the chief, his family and those of Mr James Greenfield, plus nominated officials of the Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie Society. May only be used with the written permission of the Lochbuie Clan Chief.
May only be woven with the written permission of the Lochbuie Clan Chief.

Registration notes: The design is taken from a joined and fringed plaid estimated to date from the 3rd or 4th quarter of the 18th century, hence the approximate date of 1780. The plaid belongs to Mr James Greenfield – a Maclaine of Lochbuie clansman and descendant of the 19th clan chief through the marriage of his daughter Mary to John Gregorson of Ardtornish. The family tradition is that she brought the plaid with her from Mull. Whilst this tartan pre-dates the other patterns associated with the clan, its use is restricted and it should not considered as an alternative or replacement for the current ‘red’ Maclaine of Lochbuie sett. The Auld Sett may only be woven/used with the permission of the chief of the Maclaines of Lochbuie.
