Registration notes:	A tartan designed for the ‘Schotte Clique 1947 Basel’, one of the oldest traditional carnival marching bands, which was founded in 1947 in the town of Basel in Switzerland. In 1947 a large department store in Basel had a Scottish week and sold clothing, goods and food of Scotland. The then newly found marching band used this as a theme for the carnival and everyone dressed in a Scottish manner and some played self-constructed bagpipes, hence the name Schotte Clique. In 1973 real bagpipe playing was introduced into the marching band. The pioneering members on bagpipes and snare and bass drums were so enthusiastic and successful that it triggered the formation of the ‘Pipes and Drums of Basel’ in 1978 and later pipes and drums bands all over Switzerland. The colours used are derived from: dark grey and white for Basel; white and red for the Swiss flag; blue, white, red and yellow as a tribute to Scotland, for both the Scottish flag and the Lion Rampant of Scotland.
