Registration notes: Between 1778 and 1790, Adam Smith lived and worked at Panmure House. During this time, he revised the final editions of his two master works The Theory of Moral Sentiments and The Wealth of Nations. He also regularly hosted the finest minds of the Scottish Enlightenment, who met here to debate and define the most pressing issues of the day. In honour of Smith’s work and his time at Panmure House, we have created the Adam Smith’s Panmure House Tartan. Colours: blue features on the Kirkcaldy coat of arms and the Heriot-Watt crest; green is from the idea of restoration and revival of the House, and runs through the tulipwood panelling of Panmure itself; grey is from the Scottish Gaelic 'glas' as Margaret Smith’s maiden name was Douglas; red and gold represent the Kirkcaldy coat of arms, and are both featured within the Smith and Douglas tartans.
