Colours: blue represents the Ocean, Narragansett Bay, sailing, Colonial Newport and The Navy; green represents Irish heritage, historic preservation and Newport Arboretum; yellow represents the Gilded Age and optimism; white represents religious freedom, history, goodness and purity; red represents Rogers High School and love and black represents Thompson Middle School and African American history. The design and colour combinations were specifically chosen to represent Newport Public Schools. the American flag, the Rhode Island State Flag, Salve Regina University and the flag of The US Navy.
