Registration notes: A tartan for Langholm, also known as ‘The Muckle Toun’. The design is based on the Armstrong tartan sett, Armstrong being a local Clan, using colours that are intended to represent the town: green and purple represent the surrounding hills and purple heather which can be seen during the summer months; red and navy are the colours of Langholm Rugby Club the oldest club in the borders founded in 1871; red, navy, white and yellow are all present in the Burgh Standard (Flag) which can be seen on the last Friday of July each year which is carried on horseback by the elected cornet and grey represents Langholm’s rich history in the textile industry which dates back to the late 1700’s.
