Registration notes: The Blesma tartan honours the Association’s Scottish heritage. In 1921 the first Branch of the Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association was formed in Glasgow. Groups soon formed throughout Scotland before branching across the United Kingdom. In 1932 the Branches united to form the British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association. Blesma The Limbless Veterans is dedicated to assisting serving and ex-Service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the use of a limb, an eye or loss of hearing in the honourable service of our country. The tartan is made up of the Blesma colours, representing the three branches of the Services, and the design incorporates ‘lines’ commemorating the Association’s founding in 1932 and Golden Jubilee in 1982. The Blesma tartan also honours the dedicated work of Peter J Shields MBE QGM, who retired in 2020 after 15 years of dedicated service as a Blesma Support Officer.
