Registration notes: This tartan was designed for Nishijin, the weaving district in Kyoto, Japan. The design references the year 1467, the start of the Onin war. Nishijin was where the western army had been camped during the war. This is the origin of the name Nishijin, which means ‘west position’. After the conflict, the weavers returned to Kyoto to resume their craft. The colours are intentended to represent the area of Nishijin: yellow represents the gold brocade of Nishijin and the ginko trees found in Horikawa street; light blue represents rivers of Kyoto; green represents the nature found in Kyoto; purple represents Miyabi (elegance in Japanese).
Registrant details: Miss Noriko Yamaguchi, 518 Kamigyo Ku , Kyoto City, Kyoto, Japan, 602-0959
