Registration notes: Created for the Scottish Diaspora, the tartan is intended for all Americans of Scottish extraction and their descendants who share a centuries old history and heritage. Large-scale emigration from Scotland to North America began in the 1700s after the Battle of Culloden where the Clan structures were fragmented. The Scots made their transatlantic journey in search of a better life and settled in the thirteen colonies, mainly around South Carolina and Virginia. It was created by merging sett elements from two registered tartans; ‘Declaration of Scottish Independence, Arbroath 1320’ (SRT #11182) and Old Glory (1824) (SRT #11557). The Scottish American Diaspora tartan combines the Red, White & Blue of the United States Stars & Stripes with the Scottish Saltire, the banner of Scotland. Refer to these two designs for the full combined rationale within the weave. Tartan design inspired by Prickly Thistle, Scottish Highlands, 2022.
