Registration notes: A tartan for the artist ‘Spessartfolk’. The colours were inspired by the Spessart region, a low mountain range in south-western Germany, with both shades of green intending to represent the dense deciduous forest populating the region. The original name of the region is ‘Spechtshaardt’, which translates to ‘Woodpecker’s forest’. Spessart is home to seven native species of woodpecker and all are represented in the colours of the tartan. The number seven is also reflected in the arrangement of the stripes. The yellow stripe is a reference to the regional specialties of cider and beer.
Woven Sample: A woven sample of this tartan has been received by the Scottish Register of Tartans for permanent preservation in the National Records of Scotland.
