Tartan Details - Dowell, John & Family (Personal)

The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Dowell, John & Family (Personal)" tartan is shown below.

Reference: 13533
Designer: Dowell, John and MacDonald, Ewan
Tartan date: 06/06/2022
Registration date: 14 June 2022
Category: Name
Restrictions: Yes. Intended for the exclusive use of the Dowell family.

Registration notes: The tartan was inspired by the tartan of the Dowell family’s parent clan, MacDougall. It was designed for the marriage of John Dowell to his French fiancée Paloma Rossetti. The colours are intended to represent the lanscapes that are important to the couple: green represents the green Scottish hills; blue and grey represent Scottish waters and the sky; soft purple was chosen to reflect the native flowers of three landscapes: the heather of Scotland, the lavender fields of Provence (where Paloma was born) and the blossoms of the Jacaranda tree in Nairobi, Kenya.
Woven Sample: A woven sample of this tartan has been received by the Scottish Register of Tartans for permanent preservation in the National Records of Scotland.
