Registration notes: The Backdraft tartan was designed for the Cape Breton Regional Fire & Emergency Services (CBRFES). CBRFES is made up of 34 separate fire departments, represented in the thread count, each with very distinct identities and traditions. The commissioning of this tartan was intended to be a way of honouring those identities and traditions and to help build new ones. Colours: green is intended to represent the vast evergreen forests of Cape Breton; red represents the fire service; yellow, representing gold/brass, indicates the various ranks of service as one advances through the fire service and black and grey were included to represent the darkness of fire and smoke, and the destruction it leaves in its wake. The name Backdraft reflects the dangers firefighters face each day.
