Registration notes: The tartan Rivière-du-Loup 1673 was gifted by the Cercle de Fermières Rivière-du-Loup to the city to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the seigniory of Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada, granted in 1673. The tartan is intended to honour the major role of the Fraser family in the historical development of the village which became the town of Fraserville and is today Rivière-du-Loup. Under Charles Aubert de la Chesnaye (1632-1702) during the period of Nouvelle-France, the seigniory was exploited for the commerce of fur and fisheries and later for its forest products. At the time, the territory was inhabited by the First Nations, the newly arrived French pioneers and later some British. Colours: orange is intended to represent the First Nations; blue is for the French pioneers and the red represents the arrival of the English, Scottish and Irish people after the British Conquest of 1760. The light blue is intended to represent the modern city of present day.
