Registration notes: This tartan was created for the opening of The Audley Public House, Mayfair, London, in 2022. It was commissioned by ARTFARM, owned by Iwan & Manuela Wirth. The original building was constructed and first registered as a pub in 1730, during the Jacobite era. The design style was informed by tartans from the Jacobite era and the colours obtained through natural dyes. Using this as inspiration, the designer created a palette of natural dyes which are the basis for the colours in this tartan, including cochineal, logwood, indigo and onion. Cochineal, made from the dried body of a beetle, was used to create the shades of red, the inspiration for the ground colour of this tartan. At the time, it was the most expensive dye to obtain and was therefore used as a sign of wealth. The design was created to be used for the Jacobite room in The Audley.
