Registration notes:	The Eilean Mòr tartan was inspired by the ancient history of the Isle of Islay. Eilean Mòr, Gaelic for Great Isle, is one of the islands that lies in Loch Finlaggan, which formed the administrative centre of the Lordship of the Isles during the 13th to 15th centuries. The colours in the tartan are intended to reflect the beautiful landscape of Finlaggan; blue for the Loch and green to represent the close relationship with Ireland, parts of which were ruled by the Lords of the Isles; grey was inspired by the remains of the stone buildings on Eilean Mòr, such as the chapel and castle, and yellow, pink and white are intended to reflect Finlaggan as it is now, with wild flowers growing among the ruins and sheep grazing on the island. The sett number reflects the distance of Islay, running 25 miles from north to south, 15 miles from east to west, and 40 kilometres north of the Northern Irish coast.
