Registration notes: |
A tartan for the Worshipful Company of Carmen, one of the Livery Companies of the City of London, to celebrate the members and history of the Carmen. Carriers have plied for hire for nearly two thousand years. The Carmen existed when the City was born, moving goods, materials, wine, wood and fuel within and beyond the City. Traditionally, the Carmen fellowship dates from the 13th century when, in 1272, the city passed a by-law controlling carriers. Today the Company of Carmen remains associated with transport and logistics, keeping alive the traditions of fellowship, benevolence, civic pride, and commercial integrity. This design features the following colours from the Worshipful Company of Carmen’s coat of arms; white, pale yellow, green, red and grey and brown is intended to represent the original wooden hand carts. |
