Registration notes:	Designed by Robin Deas and Kenneth Hood and adapted and woven by Andrew Elliot of Andrew Elliot Ltd, Forest Mill, Galashiels, Scotland. Launched at a civic reception in Hawick as the official district tartan on 28th February 1996 and controlled by the Hawick Tartan Company Ltd under Registered Design No.601999. The Royal Blue and Gold are taken from the Pennant of the Priory of Hexham won by Hawick youths from a marauding English band at Hornshole in 1514. The Field Green and White are the colours of the Hawick Rugby Club. The Navy Blue and White are the Hawick High School colours. The Dark Green, Royal Blue, Navy and White are all present in the Douglas Clan tartan whose forebears occupied Drumlanrig Tower in Hawick. The Red Reed running through the tartan represents the blood spilled by Hawick men at the Battle of Flodden in 1513. Sample in Scottish Tartans Authority's Johnston Collection.
