Registration notes: Designed by Wilsons of Bannockburn, a sample of this distinctive tartan is included in the Cockburn Collection (compiled 1810-15) in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow where it is labelled ‘Sinclair’. By c.1830-40, Wilsons’ specimens were labelled ‘MacLaine’ but it was not until Grant’s 1886 publication that it was first recorded as ‘MacLaine of Lochbuie’.
Woven Sample: A woven sample of this tartan has been received by the Scottish Register of Tartans for permanent preservation in the National Records of Scotland.
