Registration notes:	Found in the Vestiarium Scoticum No 54, The Setts No: 210. and W & A K Johnston, 1906. With the death of the 10th Lord Oliphant in 1748, it was not known eighty years later who the Clan Chief was when the Highland Society of London began the naming and registration of official clan tartans on 8th April 1815. This may have resulted in the tartan for Clan Oliphant being overlooked. Claimed and registered with Lord Lyon by the Chief of Clan Oliphant in 2004. As with the Chief's crest, which goes to form the clansmen's badge, the tartan may be worn (at least in theory) to designate anyone who supports the Chief. Since 1906 sometimes but without evidence referred to as 'Oliphant and Melville'.
