Registration notes: Said to have been taken from a Riding Cloak worn by Prince Charles Edward in 1745. In fact, the coat is late C18th and was altered c1830-50, probably for female use as the closing is reversed, The later alterations to the coat included a new collar in Wilsons' No.169. Another tartan, probably Wilsons', used to line the pockets. The quality and shades of the body of the coat are consistent with Wilsons' material too and it is likely that this was one of their numbered or early named patterns.
