Registration notes: Designed to commemorate the opening of the new Caledonian Brewery Maltings Building which replaced the previous one which was destroyed by fire in 1994. The Caledonian Brewery was founded and built by George Lorimer and Robert Clark in 1869 and was sold to Vaux of Sunderland in 1919. In 1987, then Head Brewer, Russell Sharp, led a management buy-out with former Lorimer & Clark Managing Director, Dan Kane, to purchase the Caledonian Brewery from Vaux of Sunderland who had closed the brewery in 1985.
