Restrictions: Yes. The design is protected under UK Design Registration No.6295231 dated 08 July 2023. The Scottish Tartans Authority controls the commercial production of this tartan and all enquiries must be directed to them.
Registration notes: A reconstruction of the specimen found in a peat bog in Glen Affric and donated to the Scottish Tartans Society in 1985; and now owned by the successor organisation The Scottish Tartans Authority. This pattern was based on the results of dye analysis and Carbon 14 testing conducted in 2023 which identified a likely date range of 1500-1625 for the specimen with a high probability of it dating between 1500-1600. Heavily stained with peat, dye analysis identified stripes of green and black/brown on red and yellow ground colours.

The registration criteria now applied by the Register conforms to the Scottish Register of Tartans Act 2008. These criteria are different to those previously applied by either the STA or the STWR.
