Registration notes: Commemorating the1877 founding of The Guild by The Rev. Dr. Archibald Hamilton Charteris the square blue and red block is from the 1842 Hamilton tartan. Grey is from 1831 Clergy tartan and the Christian cross on blue represents the Church of Scotland, the Scottish Saltire flag and, with red, the corporate colours of the Guild. The grey and the green also symbolise the the length and breadth of Scotland covered by the Guild's national membership. This tartan has a different warp and weft, only one of which is symmetrical.
