Tartan Details - Witches' Blood, The

The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Witches' Blood, The" tartan is shown below.

Reference: 11495
Designer: Brown, Jonathan
Tartan date: 01/03/2016
Registration date: 24 March 2016
Category: Fashion
Restrictions: Yes. May only be sold or reproduced with the sole permission of MacLeod's Scottish Shop (2128098 Ontario Inc.). Original design and weave preparation by Strathmore Woollen Co Ltd.

Registration notes: Inspired by Stratford Festival's 2016 production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, this tartan was created to coincide with worldwide celebrations of the playwright's enduring legacy, 400 years after his death in 1616. Macbeth abounds in images of blood and the darkness of night, hence the tartan's striking use of red and black. The charcoal tone, equivocating between the polar opposites of black and white, evokes both the literal and moral fog of an uncanny world in which, as the Weird Sisters (or witches) proclaim, "Fair is foul, and foul is fair."
Woven Sample: A woven sample of this tartan has been received by the Scottish Register of Tartans for permanent preservation in the National Records of Scotland.
