Registration notes: A corporate tartan created to combine elements of the founding of Pittsburgh and its industrial and sporting heritage. Black and gold are the primary colours and the three major Pittsburgh sports teams (the Steelers, the Pirates and the Penguins) have adopted black and gold as their team colours. Red, yellow and blue are said to represent the primary ingredients for making steel; red for iron ore, yellow for coal and blue for steel scrap. The logo for US Steel (formerly Carnegie Steel) also contained blue, yellow and red.
