Registration notes: Designed by Donalda Stevens and Janice Herwig, this tartan was created to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday and references the following: the town's Scottish origins as a town named after a hamlet in Stirling, Scotland; the colours of the founders' tartans and the importance of the Buchanans, MacNabs, and McLachlins to the town's development; the colours of the town's traditional symbol and the current colour palette used by the town in its newer logo (represented by the lighter blue) - to unite past and present. The phrase "Where the Rivers Meet" is a key part of the town's image, with the dark blue representing the mighty Ottawa River and the lighter one, the Madawaska River, which intersects the Ottawa. The green represents the white pine forests, a vital element of the town's history as a major centre of the lumber trade. Parallel lines evoke the bridge and the railway tracks, key elements in the town's development.
