Registration date: 5 October 2017

Registration notes: The purpose of this tartan is to create a bond with, and support for the Hedelius family’s interest in the centuries old conviction of an historical linguistic bond between the languages spoken in Scotland and the Nordic countries. This connection was hailed by the family’s ancestor, the Professor of Linguistics and Bishop Esaias Tegnér (1782-1846), who manifested in his greatest poetic achievement, set in northern Scotland, the much-translated Frithiofs saga (1825), based on an old Icelandic 8th Century saga celebrating the heroic Viking heritage of Frithjof, his life in Orkney and the Nordic countries, with lyric, dramatic and epic elements.
