Registration notes: A personal tartan for Dr Robert Hodge and his family. The design was based on the Forbes tartan, Robert’s mother’s maiden name, and additional elements and colours of personal significance were added: purple from the thistle; yellow which is intended to represent the gorse on the hillsides above Tillicoultry where Robert grew up; red from the 'red bridge' leading to a disused coal mine near where he played as a child; green, red and yellow are also taken from the Cochrane tartan, Robert’s paternal grandmother's maiden name, and blue and white are intended to represent the Saltire.
