Registration notes: This tartan was inspired by Yin and Yang, a Chinese philosophical concept that represents balance and harmony. Black and White are intended to symbolise the duality of nature and the complementary forces of Yin and Yang, with black representing Yin and white representing Yang. The threadcount includes numbers of significance: 1 is intended to represent unity, completeness, and the beginning of all things; 2 is for duality, the interdependence of Yin-Yang, and balance; and 8 is for prosperity, success and good luck. Ten threads in the sett (repeated four times) is intended to signify completion and perfection, echoing the harmony of the Five Elements in Chinese philosophy (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) and the cyclical nature of the 10 Heavenly Stems. These Elements symbolise the interplay of opposites, mirroring the balance of Yin and Yang, and emphasising equilibrium in daily life, all of this aligned with the natural order of the universe.
