Tartan date: 25/01/2024
Registration date: 6 February 2024

This tartan can only be woven, reproduced digitally or in print with prior written consent from the Playfair family. This design was first commissioned for manufacture on behalf of John D L Playfair by The Kiltmakery at ScotClans.

Registration notes: This tartan was commissioned by John Payfair to honour of those in the Playfair family past and present. The earliest recorded Playfairs made their home in the 15th century in the Carse of Gowrie on the north bank of the river Tay in Perthshire. From there, they expanded north over the Sidlaw Hills to the parish of Bendochy in the Vale of Strathmore and the south across the Tay to Abernethy. The history of the family has been published in at least 9 different volumes over the last 150 years. In recent years, digital media has facilitated research proving the connection to the Perthshire family to a wide diaspora of Playfairs across the globe. This tartan is intended to capture the family’s connection and to give them a tartan of their own.
