The colours in this tartan were inspired by a photograph of Old Faithful Inn, with Old Faithful Geyser in the foreground in Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone was established on March 1, 1872, which is represented within the thread count. Colours: white is intended to represent the eruptions of Old Faithful Geyser, approximately every 90 minutes, Old Faithful shoots 3,700 to 8,400 US gallons of water nearly 185 feet into the air for 1.5 to 5 minutes; green is for the 2.2 million acres, filled with alpine meadows, grassy plains, and lush forests, the Park is one the largest intact thriving ecosystems in the world; blue represents the streams, flowing rivers, and deep lakes, including the largest freshwater lake above 7000 feet in North America; yellow is for the vibrant rhyolite rock that formed the volcanic caldera walls seen throughout the park; brown represents Yellowstone’s renowned historic lodges, including Old Faithful Inn, one of the largest log structures in the world. |
