Registration notes: A dress version of the Witchery tartan commissioned to celebrate 5 decades on the Castlehill, Edinburgh. This red version is intended to reflect the walls within the Witchery, panelled with 17th century oak rescued from a fire at St Giles Cathedral and panelling from a Burgundian Chateau. Colours: wine-red is intended to reflect the Burgundian wines cherished by James and showcased in The Witchery's cellar; the crimson shade nods to the procession of monarchs traversing the Royal Mile on route from the Palace of Holyrood house to Edinburgh Castle; black is intended to evoke the era when witchcraft held sway Edinburgh between 1470 & 1722; the gold (yellow) check mirrors the Witchery’s heraldic painted and gilded ceilings, and green was inspired by the Witchery's passion for the long-term conservation and sustainable future of historic buildings. 352 threads form the sett, mirroring The Witchery's address, 352 Castlehill, The Royal Mile.
