Yes. There is no restriction as to who can wear the Tech Tartan. Weaving is restricted to Louisiana Tech University and its licensed vendors. Tartan merchandise can only be produced and sold by Louisiana Tech University and its licensed vendors.

This tartan was designed for Louisiana Tech University. The colours of red and blue, the school’s colours, are based on ‘The Legend of the Bulldog’. According to the legend, when the bulldog that saved students from a fire was buried, two students used their jackets to cover the bulldog, one was blue and the other was red. Louisiana Tech University has six academic units - five colleges (Applied and Natural Sciences, Business, Education and Human Sciences, Engineering and Science, and Liberal Arts) and the Library - which are represented by the red stripes. The twelve white stripes are intended to represent the ‘Tenets of Tech’; confidence, excellence, commitment, knowledge, integrity, respect, leadership, respect, loyalty, enthusiasm, caring, hope, and pride. The central pivot is intended to represent the Quadrangle at the centre of Tech’s campus, the home to the University Administration’s offices and the paths that lead to the academic buildings and student life. |
