Tartan Details - Quebec, Plaid du

The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Quebec, Plaid du" tartan is shown below.

STA ref: 1949
STWR ref: 1949
Designer: Rotex Ltd
Tartan date: 01/01/1965
Registration date: This tartan was recorded prior to the launch of The Scottish Register of Tartans.
Category: Corporate
Registration notes: The French speaking province of Quebec is Canada's largest province and its name comes from the Algonquin Indian 'Kebe' meaning 'the place where the river narrows' which referred to the narrowing of the St Lawrence River near what is now Quebec City. Scottish immigrants first settled in Quebec over 400 years ago and are regarded as one of the founding peoples of the province. Although the Quebec tartan has never been officially adopted, the concept of an annual Tartan Day on April 6th has, so perhaps it's only a matter of time. The designers of the Plaid du Quebec circa 1965 are recorded as Rotex Limited, believed to be a clothing manufacturer. The structure and colours of the tartan are based on the three horizontal divisions of the provincial shield.
Information notes: Woven sample in Scottish Tartans Authority's Johnston Collection.

Please note

Where tartans were recorded before the establishment of the Scottish Register of Tartans (SRT) on 5 February 2009, the original Scottish Tartans Authority (STA) and the Scottish Tartans World Register (STWR) reference numbers have been retained. The new SRT reference number can be found in the address box on your browser (url).

The registration criteria now applied by the Register conforms to the Scottish Register of Tartans Act 2008. These criteria are different to those previously applied by either the STA or the STWR. You may wish to refer to the STA website for further information on the original recording of this tartan.
