The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Kinnaird #2" tartan is shown below.

STA ref: 7781
STWR ref: none
Designer: Not Specified
Tartan date: Not Specified
Registration date: This tartan was recorded prior to the launch of The Scottish Register of Tartans.
Category: Name
Registration notes: The three red bands represent the damilt of 'le Rufus' or 'The Red' and each one represents one of the three main branches - Kinnaird of that Ilk, of Culbin and of Inchture. The two purple lines are the two surnames used by the family - Rufus and Kinnaird - but also represent the blaeberries of 'Berriebanks' and the heater on the highest hills of the family lands. The single white line represents the sword of Radulphus le Rufus who won the barony of Kinnaird; the burns that descend through the Sidlaw lands of the family and the waterfall Lin-Ma-Gray of poetry fame. The green band is representative of all the family lands that have been held in seven counties and the black is for the mists of time in which the many family branches have been enveloped.

Please note

Where tartans were recorded before the establishment of the Scottish Register of Tartans (SRT) on 5 February 2009, the original Scottish Tartans Authority (STA) and the Scottish Tartans World Register (STWR) reference numbers have been retained. The new SRT reference number can be found in the address box on your browser (url).

The registration criteria now applied by the Register conforms to the Scottish Register of Tartans Act 2008. These criteria are different to those previously applied by either the STA or the STWR. You may wish to refer to the STA website for further information on the original recording of this tartan.
